This is a suggestion to the admins of this site:

I'd like to make a suggestion for a third way to enter music lyrics. You can create a simple extension to mediawiki that will handle all of the line breaks.

For example this is a sample script I wrote. If you to save it as lyrics.php under the Extensions folder

# lyrics extension by bailey
$wgExtensionFunctions[] = "lyrics";

function lyrics() {
   global $wgParser;
   $wgParser->setHook( "lyrics", "parse" );
# The callback function for converting the input text to HTML output
function parse( $input, $argv ) {
   return preg_replace("[\r\n|\n]", "<br />", $input);

and then add the following to the end of your LocalSetting.php

You would then be able to type in all of your lyrics with just one tag

It's four in the morning, the end of December
I'm writing you now just to see if you're better
New York is cold, but I like where I'm living
There's music on Clinton Street all through the evening.

and the breaks would be automatically added. Of course with this technique you couldn't add wikilinks to the middle of songs but I think the trade off is worth it compared to having to sit there and add either a space at the begining or a br tag at the end.

Thanks for the above suggestion

Just a quick thank you to whoever made that suggestion, I believe it was Bailey :)... I read again and it has Bailey's name in the script, I'm so smurt. x.X;;;

Anyone familiar with Wikipedia is likely to know about stubs. For those that don't, a stub is a page that has just been started and needs work. It seems like we could use something like this. Olleicua 16:48, 8 August 2006 (PDT)

what would be a stub though? If there is lyrics/a song I listen to that clearly needs "work" then I usually would just add
to the page.--ahoier 06:10, 10 August 2006 (PDT)
Not for pages that need cleaning. For pages that are unfinished. Like an artist page with only one album and two songs. Then someone could go to the stubs category and see that an artist they knew was there and add to it. Olleicua 16:42, 15 August 2006 (PDT)
We already have {{incomplete}} template for such pages. --Pietaster 23:55, 15 August 2006 (PDT)

I'm having difficulty getting images to work with the Album Template. An example is here: A Perfect Circle:Thirteenth Step (2003). I have tried various combinations of characters, and even copied the format from a page where it did work. The image file even states that the file links to it, yet no picture. Help?--Jinx 12:36, 20 August 2006 (PDT)

I see the image (though it's heavily scaled up). You may need to empty your browser cache. --MindlessXD 16:30, 21 August 2006 (PDT)

It would be good to add chods to lyrics and have a chords site cheers (comment belongs to Derekmarks)

This site is a lyrics destination, not chords. While I agree a tablature/chords wiki would be excellent, this is not the place for it, since there are many different ways to interpret a song. --Suspchaos 03:33, 30 September 2006 (PDT)

Could I suggest replacing the link to discogs with one to Discogs is terrible - for instance, I just added Ryan Adams's album Heartbreaker here, and Discogs doesn't even list it in Adams's discography! RYM has more contributors and a more thorough database. --Waitingtoderail 14:04, 19 November 2006 (EST)
